I hope everyone likes this video I put together of my journey from zero triathlons in August of 2009 to competing and finishing the Louisville Ironman on August 29th. This 7 minute video starts a couple of days prior to the event and captures key points of the race. Enjoy and let me know what you think.
The 70.3 in Florida was quite an experience. My wife and I decided to go alone to
Disney since we have not been away in 9 years without kids and were enjoying our 15th anniversary. We have been soaking up the ‘Blue Man Group’ and the “Cirque” as well post Florida 70.3.
I would have to say that this was truly an event! IronMan has had 30 years to perfect the art of triathlon and it showed. It was just tons of fun.
I am not going to judge my results of 5:48 since this was my second triathlon and first 70.3. My first triathlon this past September 09 was the MakeaWish at Sea Colony Delaware and i ran on average 7:39 per mile after 6 weeks of training. On my race Friday i averaged 9:45 per mile………humbling to say the least. The heat was the great equalizer.
After the first lap on the run course at about 4 miles, I threw my ‘fuel be
lt’ to my wife (each bottle was filled with Heed…….a fancy endurance drink). I think I Hammer HEED’ed myself on the bike course. It was poison to my body on the run and my stomach was not feeling good. The ecaps almost made me puke on the run. I yelled to her, “I am just having water from now on” you keep the Belt. If it wasn’t for nice cold water and awesome support of the volunteers I am not sure i could have handled the heat. When I saw people with arms strapped to their body because they crashed on the bike, People with steel/ carbon legs, and blind people on the course i just kept putting one foot in front of the other until the finish.
It was a great experience and I learned a bunch out there. I am glad that I listened to my body and was able to finish strong and Yes, as humbled as I was with this race I would do it again.
