Virtualization is not easy and as a CIO moves up the virtualization maturity curve, he/she must have the conversation of deploying virtual desktops. A CIO must navigate and convey IT risk to corporate management. VDI is maturing and Andi discusses items to watch for: scale of servers, number of applications, technical support (server admins versus PC admins), management of virtual desktops, response times servers versus desktop, etc.
Andi discusses clever options that are emerging which make VDI easier to deploy for the CIO – they include:
• Separating all layers: hyper, OS, applications settings and data (combine them real-time on the fly)
• Data de-duplication, Multi-site replication
